February 4 - 15, 2009 Michelle Marie Roy exhibited a new video/photo work in the "Black Box", which is an experimental space for video art, initiated by Ann-Sofi Sidén at the Royal Academy of Art. The exhibition entitled The Beautiful Rape was named by DN, Sweden's largest newspaper, as one of the most challenging exhibitions on view.

“I remember my first encounter with Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna. As a young student in an art survey class, I recall the conflict within myself at being moved by the beauty of Giambologna's sculpture while simultaneously being repulsed that such a despicable act could be portrayed with such splendor.” Roy’s research culminated into a paper and now into an exhibition featuring two new works from a developing series.
